Pax Labs is undoubtedly one of the most reputable companies in the world of vaporizers. In the last half-decade, it has become a legitimate front-runner in revolutionizing how people consume marijuana.

Who Is Pax Labs?
The brand was founded in 2007 by Adam Bowen and James Monsees, two Stanford Design Program graduates who were hell-bent on getting people to switch from smoking to vaping marijuana.
The company has since made an effective vape line that provides a simple and pleasurable experience. Since the rapid rise in the popularity of vaping, many smokers are now turning to vape devices. There is scientific evidence that vaping is better for your health than smoking, although the process isn’t 100% safe.
However, people aren’t just choosing to vape over smoking for health reasons. Vaping also offers greater discretion, enhanced flavors, and a more intense “cannabis sensation.” It may even work out as a less expensive habit than smoking, depending on your frequency of use.
Pax Labs has positioned itself as a lifestyle brand and a technology company. It is a fixture at some high-profile music festivals and fashion shows and has commissioned artists to paint marijuana-inspired murals in cities like Denver, Berlin, and Seattle.
Pax vapes are in high demand, but are they as good as the hype suggests? This article investigates the Pax devices currently on the market. It concludes by discussing whether the brand intends to release a Pax 4 device.
Pax 3 Review: Enhancing the Vaping Experience
The Pax 3 vaporizer is a portable vape that accommodates dry herb and concentrates. It has an elegant design and is easy to use and transport.
Pax 3 Vape Review – Key Features
Sleek design and impeccable vapor quality have helped make the Pax 3 a global phenomenon. These days, you can purchase a kit laden with accessories for around $200. The basic kit consists of:
- One flat and one raised mouthpiece
- A USB charger
- A maintenance kit
- A standard oven lid
For an extra $50, you can buy the complete kit, which adds the following accessories to the package:
- Three oven screens
- A concentrate insert
- A multi-tool (Keychain)
- A half-pack oven lid
You can find the Pax 3 for sale directly on the Pax Labs website.
The Pax 3 is small enough to fit in your pocket, meaning you can bring it anywhere. The minimalist design is aesthetically pleasing, and the fact it’s made from anodized aluminum means it is a durable unit. Moreover, the lids and mouthpieces are magnetically attached, making for secure connections.
You can purchase the Pax 3 in five different colors:
Our Pax 3 vaporizer review team disclosed that the unit had a “heat up” time of 20-25 seconds, with the official site claiming it is 22 seconds. The device offers the following four temperature modes.
|SETTING||TEMPERATURE RANGE||LED COLOR|
|Temperature 1||360°F (182°C)||Green (1 light)|
|Temperature 2||380°F (193°C)||Yellow (2 lights)|
|Temperature 3||400°F (204°C)||Orange (3 lights)|
|Temperature 4||420°F (215°C)||Red (4 lights)|
You can control the temperature to a single degree within the 360 – 420-degree range with the app.
There are also five pre-set dynamic modes in the Pax 3 app to provide an even greater level of customization.
- Standard: With this mode, the oven temperature increases when the device detects your lips. An auto-cool feature kicks in when your lips haven’t touched the Pax 3 for 20 seconds.
- Boost: You benefit from more vapor without changing your existing temperature setting.
- Efficiency: Increases the oven temperature by 1 degree every two seconds to ensure a more consistent level of vapor production.
- Flavor: Maximizes flavor and produces more vapor on demand by heating and cooling the device accordingly.
- Stealth: Places the device into standby mode when not in use for 15 seconds. It also decreases the brightness of the LED indicator, allows for faster cooldown, and maintains a lower temperature.
Now, let’s check out some of the crucial features that could influence your decision to buy a Pax 3 vaporizer:

Although it may seem like a sophisticated vaporizer, the Pax 3 is suitable for novices. It enables you to vape concentrates and dry herb. You can easily switch between materials by slotting the concentrate insert into the unit’s chamber.
The multi-colored LED display gives precise feedback on what’s happening inside the unit when heating. This data ultimately lets you know when the chamber has reached the optimal vaping temperature.
How to Use the Pax 3 Vape
Here’s a quick outline of how to use the Pax 3 vaporizer:
- Remove the magnet cap at the bottom of the device to expose the heating chamber. Next, fill it with dry herb or concentrates and replace the cap.
- Turn on the device by pressing the center of the mouthpiece on top of the unit.
- Hold the power button while the Pax 3 is on, and you’ll enter the temperature menu.
- From there, cycle through the temperature Remember, you can only fully customize the temperature via the app.
- After selecting the temperature, press and hold the power button to lock it in place.
- Then Pax 3 will vibrate, and the lights will turn green once the temperature is reached. Now you’re ready to use the device.
If you want to use the concentrate insert, fill it with your favorite concentrate, wax, or butter, and place it in the unit’s oven. When using concentrates, you can vape at several different temperature ranges, depending on the specific effects you want to feel.
How to Clean the Pax 3 Vape
Cleaning your Pax 3 regularly is necessary to keep it working at peak performance, and applying the mouthpiece lubricant helps avoid the subtle little nuances of the device. For instance, the tip can get stuck onto the body if you don’t clean it for a month. Here’s what you will need to clean your Pax 3:
- A pack of mouthpiece lubricant
- A small amount of rubbing alcohol
- Interdental brush from your local drugstore
- Two Q-tips
- Pipe cleaner
- A clean straw off a spray can (like WD-40 or something similar — but make sure there is no residue on it)
The main areas of concern are the mouthpiece connections and over the oven. Here’s a quick overview of how to clean the Pax 3.
- To clean the mouthpiece area, turn the device on to pop the mouthpiece out, grab the brush, and dab a little alcohol on it.
- The tiny brush should allow you to get into all the areas around the tubing. You can use the Q-tips for areas too small for the brush.
- Grab the pipe cleaner and moisten its end with a little alcohol.
- Use the pipe cleaner to go over the areas of the mouthpiece again, using Q-tips where necessary.
- To clean the oven, moisten the pipe cleaner with more alcohol. Remove the bottom of the oven cover and use the supplies again to wipe down this section.
Overall, the Pax 3 is a fantastic vaporizer that provides outstanding flavor and vapor quality. The different temperature settings and unique modes help provide a truly customized vaping experience. Also, the limited 10-year warranty is a sign of the company’s faith in the device.
Review of Pax 2: The “OG” Top-Shelf Vape
The Pax 2 vaporizer was designed specifically for use with dry herb material. Thanks to its state-of-the-art battery pack and top-shelf vapor quality, it is beautifully crafted and offers long, uninterrupted vaping sessions.
When comparing the Pax 2 and Pax 3 vaporizers, the main difference is the app one can use with the latter. Also, the Pax 2 doesn’t allow you to vape concentrates. Since the older iteration is $50+ cheaper, it is worth considering if you only vape dry herb and have little interest in apps.
Pax 2 Vaporizer: Key Features
For years, the Pax 2 vape has legitimately been one of the best regarding portability, performance, and discretion. At 98mm x 31mm x 22mm, it is the same size as the Pax 3, making it easy to carry around in your pocket.
The flat mouthpiece design makes it difficult for anyone to determine what it is, so it wins bonus points for discretion. With no irritating clicking components to worry about, cleaning is fairly simple.
The Pax 2 even has the same temperature settings as the Pax 3! There are four pre-set options with the same LED lighting indicating each one:
- One Green Petal: 360 degrees Fahrenheit
- Two Yellow Petals: 380 degrees
- Three Orange Petals: 400 degrees
- Four Red Petals: 420 degrees
According to Pax Labs, the Pax 2 vape has a unique heating algorithm, which adjusts the device’s temperature dynamically based on how you use it. The algorithm is focused on the materials themselves rather than the oven temperature, which ensures that the draw is consistent from start to finish. Also, the Pax 2 heat settings theoretically mean that you should get a better, more consistent flavor over a longer period.
The Pax 2 kit comes with the following:
- USB charger
- Flat mouthpiece
- Raised mouthpiece
- Standard oven lid
You can also purchase these accessories:
- Half-pack oven lid
- 3-pack of oven screens
- PAX charging tray
- Multi-tool (keychain)
Once again, your best move when buying the Pax 2 is to visit the Pax Labs website. There are too many fake versions on third-party websites to take the risk.
How to Use the Pax 2 Vaporizer
Using the Pax 2 vaporizer is as easy as following these instructions:
- Remove the oven lid by pressing down on one side to prop it up.
- Load the chamber using a loading tool to pack the herb, then reattach the lid. Make sure the chamber is cooled down before you remove the oven lid.
- Find a needle or another thin object if you need to remove the Pax 2 screen.
- Insert the needle into one of the holes found on the side of the screen and pry it up, lifting it with tweezers if necessary.
- Next, drop the screen into the chamber and nudge it down until perfectly in place.
- Press the button at the center of the mouthpiece, and hold it down to enter the temperature control mode.
- Press it quickly to cycle through the four settings, and hold the button down again to set the temperature. The temperature settings are displayed by an LED light that has four petals.
- Once the temperature has been selected, the Pax 2 will take 45-60 seconds to heat.
DID YOU KNOW: The Pax 2 chamber can hold a minimum of 0.15 grams and a maximum of 0.35 grams?
How to Clean the Pax 2 Vape
Here’s a quick guide to cleaning the Pax 2:
- First, clip off the mouthpiece and take the small oven screen out.
- Clean any dirt out of the oven screen to ensure air can easily flow through it.
- Use a small brush and some cleaning solution to clean the device’s oven gently. This process ensures that the stainless-steel vapor path remains clear.
You should give it a thorough clean every few sessions to keep it clear and ensure that the air path is unobstructed. Since the mouthpiece is silicone, it’s not prone to too much build-up. However, it’s still a good idea to clean it now and again, especially since it’s the part that goes in your mouth!
Ultimately, the Pax 2 is very similar to the Pax 3, with the main differences relating to the latter’s app and ability to vaporize concentrates. The Pax 2 still provides excellent flavor and decent clouds. Certainly, you will still enjoy the high produced by top-shelf marijuana when used in this device!
The Pax Era Range: Budget Vaping at Its Finest
If you believe the Pax 2 or Pax 3 are a little on the expensive side, don’t fret! Pax Labs also has a couple of significantly more affordable devices: The Pax Era Pro and Pax Era Life. The Life was the first to be released and is available for just $35.
It is designed specifically for oil extracts, so you can’t use dry flower in it. The Pax Era Life is a temperature-controlled, pen-sized vaporizer with a rechargeable battery. It consists of just two parts: the base and the POD system. The base consists of the battery and a classic Pax light display, and the PODs are sold separately (in 0.5g and 1g sizes) and slide easily into their place on the top of the base.
The Pax Era Pro is the Life’s successor and is almost identical, barring app access. If you buy the Life, there is no app connectivity. Let’s check out the Pax Era Life and see if the Pro offers anything different.
Pax Era Life Review – Key Features
The Pax Era Life is a lightweight, pocket-sized device that offers a discreet, on-demand vaping experience. It comes with four temperature settings:
- Low: 520 degrees Fahrenheit
- Medium Low: 610 degrees
- Medium High: 700 degrees
- High: 790 degrees
It’s a shame there isn’t an option for lower temperatures because even at the lowest setting, you’re burning off a ton of cannabinoids. On the plus side, the heat-up time is instant, meaning you can vape as soon as you switch on the device.
In terms of battery life, you can expect around 150 puffs from a full charge, and it takes just 45 minutes to charge the device. Four LED lights indicate the battery level, so you’re never caught off guard.
Also, cleaning is exceptionally easy since it is confined to the housing. All you need to do is clean it with an antibacterial wipe or a moist cloth, and you’re good to go.
What About the Pax Era Pro?
Differences between the Life and Pro are fairly subtle in the main. The Pax Era Pro has a slightly stronger battery, giving you 250 puffs per full charge. The other big change is the existence of the app, which is only usable with the Pro.
The app enables you to control the temperature more precisely, but the temperature range remains the same. Other app features include the ability to lock or switch off the device if it isn’t in use.
Apart from those differences, and a minuscule design change, there’s little to distinguish one vaporizer from the other, barring the price. The Pax Era Pro costs $70, or twice what you’ll pay for the Pax Era Life.
Pax Era Vape Quality
Neither the Pax Life Era nor Pro produces enormous amounts of vapor. This is to be expected due to the size and price of each device. Nonetheless, both options provide decent-sized clouds for portable vaporizers.
The flavor you get from the PODs is outstanding and makes the entire experience more enjoyable. One minor irritation is that you have to buy PODs specifically for the Era range, and they aren’t so easy to find these days.

Is the Pax 4 Coming?
Rumors about Pax 4 have been doing the rounds since 2019! However, there is little or no news coming directly from Pax Labs, with most of the talk coming from Internet sources unrelated to the organization. In other words, it is nothing but guesswork.
Suggestions that a Pax 4 will ultimately be released mainly revolve around the $420 million in funding the company received in 2019. The suggestion is that surely Pax Labs will use this money to develop new products. At the time, Bharat Vasan, its CEO, said the financing would allow the brand to invest in new markets and new products.
Jesse Silver, the Product Lead at Pax Labs, spoke about moving into the software realm to provide a more holistic experience for users. However, there is no concrete information about an imminent release.
Should the Pax 4 come onto the market, we would hope for a greater temperature range and improved pre-set temperatures. There were some customer complaints about the concentrate container not fitting properly on the Pax 3, so perhaps that will be addressed. Other potential changes might include a swappable battery, USB-C charging, and a touch screen.
However, the above is nothing but conjecture, and there is no information on the possibility of a Pax 4 release coming from the company itself at present.
Pax Vape Review: The Final Verdict
Pax Labs is a definite front-runner in the world of vaporization technology. Since first introducing its portable, loose-leaf Pax vaporizer, sales have grown exponentially. This shows it is a trusted brand changing the world of vaping as we know it.
If our Pax Vape reviews told us one thing, it’s that these devices are among the highest quality in the industry.
With growing demand in the vaporization category, the company has recognized that consumers are highly interested in innovative products. We are intrigued to see if Pax Labs will release the Pax 4 and whether it is a game-changer.
