Our 30 Favorite Games to Play While High

If you are a frequent or even a semi-regular marijuana user, you’ve definitely had your fair share of good times. Smoking alone is fine, but it is always better when you do it with friends. For instance, I will remember my friend Declan’s impersonation of Jimmy Somerville singing Smalltown Boy until the day I die!

The thing about weed is that some strains help you become extremely creative. Therefore, if there is a group of you getting high, why not put your heads together and come up with some fun and innovative weed games? I invite you to try some of the following 30 and perhaps write in and provide us with any well-known games that I’ve missed, along with your own ideas.

Before I begin, here are a few ground rules to ensure you don’t get completely blitzed. Sure, it is fun and everything, but isn’t it better to stay the course and be able to enjoy multiple games?

  • Stick with dry herb: Weed games and high-potency concentrates are NOT a good combination. Take a single hit from a joint or bong and don’t go crazy!
  • Use moderate strength weed: Steer clear of weed with THC content above 20%. It is a similar scenario to drinking games, where you use beer instead of wine or vodka.
  • No extra hits: Resist the urge to get baked in between games. Save yourself for the games or else you’ll pass out halfway through ‘Never Have I Ever.’
  • Select your games wisely: There are so many games on this list for a very good reason; variety rules! If the group contains a few beginners, pick games where you only have hits every 10 minutes or so.
  • Alcohol and marijuana don’t mix: I learned this lesson as a neophyte and ended up feeling very ill as I passed out on a sofa while my friends made prank calls.

1 – Strip Choker

weed-games-strip-choker

This weed game is sure to test your lung capacity. It requires everyone to have something to smoke out of, so it may not be the best idea for large groups. The premise of ‘Strip Choker’ is simple; all members of the group take a hit simultaneously and hold it in for as long as possible. The first person to exhale or cough has to take off an item of clothing. Make sure no one cheats by turning up dressed like Scott of the Antarctic.

2 – Bong Races

weed-games-bong-races

This is another game where everyone needs a smoking implement. For best results, make sure everyone has a bowl or pipe capable of holding roughly the same amount of marijuana. Choose a referee and start smoking! The first to finish the bowl is the winner.

3 – Bong Pong

This is an all-time classic and is often associated with the alcohol version: ‘beer pong.’ Bong Pong is very similar except that you obviously use cannabis instead. You can create a 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 scenario, and the goal is to try and throw a ping-pong ball into your rival’s cup.

weed-games-bong-pong

One way to play is to fill up the cups with water and when you make a shot, you can either reward yourself with a hit or force your opponent to do so instead. Alternatively, fill the cups with beer and when you make a shot, force your rival to drink the beer while you treat yourself with a hit.

4 – Ash Bomber

Make sure you have the following materials before beginning:

  • A joint.
  • A rubber band.
  • A penny.
  • A cup.
  • A sheet of toilet paper or rolling paper.

To start, cover the opening of the cup with the paper and use the rubber band to secure it around the rim. Put the penny in the middle of the paper and light up your joint. Every participant must take 1-2 tokes, hold in the smoke, burn a hole in the paper, pass the doobie, and exhale.

You have to burn a hole each time you have a smoke, and the person who causes the penny to fall loses. At this point, they have to perform a predetermined task as punishment. Forcing them to read a couple of pages of Finnegan’s Wake is a worthy penalty; although it might actually make sense when you’re baked.

5 – The Wheel of Weed

Although this is a fantastic game, it requires a fair degree of preparation, and you’re not going to do it while stoned. There will probably be an electronic version available by now, but otherwise, create a homemade wheel with several sections including:

  • Truth
  • Dare
  • 420
  • Pass the Joint
  • Joke
  • Smoke
  • Spin Again
  • Strip

For the sake of geometry, it is probably best to have eight sections. Take turns spinning and make sure you perform the necessary action when the wheel has its say. Either choose a number of rounds at the start or play until you have no more weed or everyone is lying prostrate on the floor.

6 – Rock, Paper, Scissors

This is the classic game with added weed! It works best in 1-on-1 situations, but you can play with large groups if you wish. Basically, use your hands to display rock, paper or scissors, and the winner gets a smoke. If you didn’t already know, here is how the game is ‘scored’:

  • Rock beats scissors.
  • Paper beats rock.
  • Scissors beats paper.

7 – Chicago

This is one of the easiest games to play, but you’ll be shocked at how hard it gets! For the record, I recommend a maximum of five players for reasons that will become apparent. When you’re smoking in a group, one person says ‘Chicago’ and every member of the group agrees to begin the game.

Once you take your hit, hold it in until the joint comes back to you after everyone in the group has taken a smoke. Then, you exhale and immediately have another hit. Keep going until everyone quits or passes out. It is a game for experienced smokers so tread carefully.

8 – Jamaica Jammin’

As is the case with games #1 and #2, everyone needs their own supply. It is homage to the king of weed, Bob Marley! Put on his legendary song Jammin’ and take a hit every time he says ‘Jam’ or ‘Jammin’. If you haven’t heard the song before; (a) Shame on you and (b) he says those words a lot.

Before the game, decide if mentions of the words by backup singers also count. At one point, there are several ‘jams’ in a couple of seconds. Unless you’re an experienced user, you’ll probably be completely wrecked by the end of the tune!

9 – Medusa

Here’s a little background that hopefully helps you make sense of this weed game. Medusa is a Gorgon monster from Greek mythology that possessed wings and had snakes instead of hair. If you looked directly at this hideous creature, you would turn into stone.

weed-games-medusa

To play Medusa, sit in a circle with your friends and make sure everyone has a joint ready. Everyone must put their head down, and on the count of three, all members of the group look up and stare at another player. If you end up looking at someone who is also looking at you, shout ‘Medusa’ and take a hit.

10 – Never Have I Ever

This is another classic and requires a reasonable amount of cannabis. Choose someone to go first in the group. That individual says ‘Never have I ever’ followed by an action or activity. For instance, they may say ‘Never have I ever passed out from taking too much weed.’

weed-games-never-have-i-ever

Every member of the group who has passed out from marijuana has to take a toke. The next person in the group says ‘Never have I ever…’ and the game continues until there is no more weed.

11 – The Hour of Power

weed-games-the-hour-of-power

This is a variation of a drinking game where everyone takes a shot of beer every minute for a full hour. In the weed version, you can set a timer and take a hit every 60 seconds for 60 minutes; just make sure you have lots of cannabis. Alternatively, create a playlist of songs and take a hit each time a new song comes on. For extra fun, cut the length of the original song, so you get more hits.

12 – Band Names

-weed-games-band-names

The first player has to name a musician or group. Then, the second player has to name a musician or group whose name starts with the last letter of the previous name. For example, if player #1 says ‘Radiohead,’ player #2 could say ‘Def Leppard,’ player #3 could say ‘David Bowie’ and so on. Once a player is unable to say a name, they have to take a toke. You can play this game with football teams, actors, countries, etc.

13 – Stoner With a Straight Face

weed-games-stoner-with-a-straight-face

This is pretty easy at first, but as experienced stoners know, it becomes almost impossible once you start to get high. Before you begin, choose a penalty for smiling. Start smoking as usual and once the group is relatively baked, shout ‘Straight-Faced Stoner’ to commence the game. Whenever someone smiles, they have to pay the agreed-upon penalty.

14 – Greenjack

weed-games-green-jack

Some of the best marijuana games involve using a deck of cards, and Greenjack falls into this category. If you are familiar with Blackjack (or ‘21’), this is a fun and easy game to play. You can decide on the rules for yourself, but in most cases, whoever gets closest to 21 takes a hit. It is a good idea to add ‘penalties’ for going bust (scoring over 21), such as drinking beer.

15 – Mentioning Marijuana

weed-games-mentioning-marijuana

This is another incredibly simple game to play that could help you to get seriously high if you choose wisely. All you have to do is to watch a TV show or movie and take a hit every time someone mentions marijuana. Clearly, you need to pick a weed-orientated show/movie for this to work. Alternatively, choose another phrase that induces a marijuana hit. For instance, watch an Al Pacino movie and have a toke every time he shouts.

16 – Last Man Standing

As you can probably guess by the name, this is not a good choice for newbies. The goal is to get completely baked to the point where people are forced to quit smoking or else they will pass out. A simple way to play is to use a bong, and everyone takes turns to have a hit. Keep going until only one person is willing to take more marijuana. This game works best in larger groups.

17 – Traffic Lights

This is an excellent two-player game. Player #1 takes a toke and passes the joint to player #2 who also has a smoke. Each player takes an extra hit in every round, so by the fourth passing of the joint, you have to take four tokes. You also have to hold the smoke in until it is your turn to smoke.

18 – Taxi!

This is a lot like Traffic Lights, but it is a better game when you have several players. First of all, set a rule on the number of hits each player has to take per turn. In my experience, it is best to take two, unless there are beginners in which case one hit is enough.

All players must sit in a circle, and player #1 takes a hit before passing to player #2. The joint continues to get passed around the group, and everyone has to hold in their smoke until it is their turn again. If you exhale or cough, you miss out on the next round.

19 – Obstacle Course

This weed game has the potential to be absolutely hilarious. The only problem is the risk of injury, so you need to be clever when planning everything out. A simple version of Obstacle Course involves using blankets, chairs, and pillows in a large room.

Use these soft items to create an obstacle course of sorts and make sure you strategically place bongs and joints throughout for everyone to toke on. Each player has to navigate the course and take a toke on every item. The fastest player wins and can be rewarded in any way you choose.

20 – Ghost That Hit

weed-games-ghost-that-hit

This is another great game for players with outstanding lung capacities. Once again, it is best to play in a large group, and all participants should gather round in a circle. It is extremely similar to Taxi insofar as everyone must hold their smoke until it is their turn, but the main difference is that you keep going until there is only one player left.

21 – Marijuana MacGyver

If you’re a fan of the ludicrous yet entertaining 80s show, you will probably love this weed game. Basically, you use anything you can get your hands on in the house to make a smoking implement like a joint or a bong. Once every player has created their device, the group votes on the best and everyone gets to take a hit from the winning piece.

22 – Name that Tune

This is yet another marijuana game that deceives you with its apparent simplicity. As you surely know, it becomes very hard to remember basic things when you’re stoned, let alone recognize obscure songs, but that’s what Name That Tune is all about. Every member of the group gets to pick a song, and everyone else has to guess what it is.

weed-games-name-that-tune

If you get it wrong, you have to take a toke. Alternatively, you could decide that getting the song right is worthy of a smoke, or else the person who chooses the tune gets to take a toke if no one guesses correctly.

23 – Seven Tokes to Infinity

Before I begin, let me warn you that this is only a game for seasoned smokers. First of all, use a bong which enables you to take several hits from a single bowl. After your first hit from the bong, you can’t take another breath barring hits from the bong for a total of seven consecutive hits. Hold in each hit for a minimum of two seconds. The winner is the player who achieves the magnificent seven without choking.

24 – High Card

Get a deck of cards and shuffle them thoroughly. Place a card face down in front of every player. In each round, you receive a new card that’s dealt face down. You have to guess whether the new card is higher or lower than the last card and flip it face up. If you win, you get to have a toke. If you lose, you get nothing! You can decide to do it the other way around if you wish.

25 – One Word Story

Gather a group in a circle and hand a joint to player #1. They have to say a single word to begin a story, and each subsequent player has to add a word that makes sense to complete the story. To make things interesting, force each player to hold their smoke until it is their turn to add to the story.

26 – Joint Rolling Races

It is time to finally find out who is the joint rolling king in your group. Pit two players against one another; each is given a rolling paper and the same amount of herb. Pick a referee and when they say ‘go,’ the competitors must roll a joint. The first to get it done wins.

27 – Running Man

This is very much an outdoors game which is fun when played with several friends. Everyone forms a line and takes a massive drag of a joint or bong. Then, they have to sprint to a certain point. If you fall or throw up in the process, you’re out! You can make it harder by forcing everyone to hold their drag until they complete the sprint. I recommend playing this on grass or a similarly soft surface because there WILL be a lot of falls.

28 – Push-Up Challenge

weed-games-push-up-challenge

Who says that stoners are lazy? This game is simple, but very difficult if you’re out of shape. Inhale the weed smoke and hold it while you do push-ups. Whoever does the most without exhaling wins.

29 – Kings

This is another fun game that is best-known as a drinking challenge. You need the following to play:

  • A deck of playing cards.
  • Four joints.
  • A bong.

weed-games-kings

Shuffle the deck and place all 52 cards in a circle around the bong. Each player chooses a card, and the one you pick determines what you do in that round. You can create different rules for each card. Here’s an example:

  • Me: The person who draws a ‘3’ has to take a hit of the bong.
  • Pass: You can choose to pass on a smoke if you draw a ‘6’.
  • Rhyme: If you pick a ‘9’ you have to choose a word, and each member of the group has to try and pick a word that rhymes. For example, you may say ‘high,’and the next player could say ‘tie’ and so on. Anyone who fails to pick a rhyming word in time has to take a smoke.
  • Make a rule: You get to make a rule if you pick a ‘King.’Everyone must follow the rule until another King is drawn.

30 – Blunts

weed-games-blunts

The final entry is a variation of the game ‘Horse.’ It is a basketball game, and each player has to take a shot from the same place. If you fail to match your opponent’s success, you spell out a letter of the word ‘Blunts.’ As you can guess, you lose when you are the first to miss six shots. At that point, you have to decide whether you want the winner to get a smoke or the loser.

Final Thoughts on Weed Games

Weed is always better when used in groups because you can come up with all manner of great games. Try some of the above, and you’ll understand what I mean. Once again, I have to reiterate my point about being sensible: Don’t choose the toughest games if the group contains several newcomers.

Not only will they have no chance, but it is also likely that they will pass out or get sick if they overdo it! When you play these weed games using a shred of common sense, everyone will have a fantastic time and be eager to do it again as soon as possible.
