As the CBD vaping industry continues to flourish, CBD users all over are looking for the best CBD oil cartridge on the market.
Cartridges are for vapers who already have a vaping device, as they simply click into place ready for use. Most CBD vapes are 510-thread, making them compatible with the majority of the CBD oil cartridges on the market. You can also get starter kits that contain both the device and the cartridge.
There are tons of CBD vape cartridges out there, so finding the best one can be tricky. We selected three of the top brands and compared their CBD vape cartridges to choose a final winner. But before we get into the full review, here’s a breakdown of what you need to know about CBD vape cartridges.
What Are CBD Vape Cartridges?
Simply put, a CBD vape cartridge is a small pod filled with CBD. It’s a cylindrical tank that contains a small amount of CBD e-liquid, and it clicks into a vape pen to provide a quick and easy vaping experience.
In case you were unaware, a CBD e-liquid is made from hemp-derived CBD and the typical base ingredients you would find in any other e-liquid. These usually include propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oils. Different brands will use different combinations of these ingredients, so it’s important to check the product descriptions and the label.
CBD oil cartridges are disposable. Once the e-liquid in the tank runs out, you throw away the cartridge and replace it with a new one. However, this is more sustainable than a disposable vape pen, where you throw away the entire pen after use.
You can purchase CBD vape cartridges in a variety of strengths and flavors, so shop around until you find one that suits you. Of course, the most important thing is to ensure that it’s compatible with your vaporizer! 510-thread cartridges are the most common.
Vaping is a simple method of CBD consumption. All you need to do is use the vaporizer as per the instructions and inhale the vapor deeply. The CBD is absorbed via the respiratory system. Many CBD lovers believe that vaporized CBD offers a much higher bioavailability than other methods, making it more effective than ingested forms of CBD. Plus, many say that the CBD is faster-acting.

Editor’s Choice – Best CBD Vape Cartridges for 2020
Short on time but eager to know our winner? Medix CBD pipped the other brands to the post in our search for the best CBD cartridge. It was a tough decision, but Medix CBD won based on safety, ease of use, and potency.
Advantages of Vaping CBD Compared to Smoking
Advocates of vaping have long suggested that it’s a safer alternative to smoking. Many in the cannabis community share this belief, insisting that vaping using a CBD cartridge is better for you than smoking high-CBD cannabis.
The reason for this belief is that vaporizing uses lower temperatures than smoking. When you smoke, you burn the plant matter and the paper that surrounds it, meaning that whatever you inhale is burned. Burned matter can contain carcinogens, which is dangerous to your long-term health. Plus, the high temperature isn’t great for your delicate respiratory system.
Vaping, meanwhile, uses much lower temperatures. As long as you use the right temperature setting, nothing is burned. The vapor may also be gentler on your airways. Furthermore, since the cannabinoids don’t reach their boiling point, they could be better preserved.
Another key advantage is the lack of smell. Any smoker will know that smoke clings to your clothes and the acrid smell is potent. Vapor, however, is less strong. The best CBD cartridges are also flavored, meaning that any vapor will be fruity and delicious rather than bitter and overpowering.
What Are the Different Types of CBD Vape Cartridge?
As with other CBD products, there are different types of CBD cartridge. You can get your hands on CBD isolate cartridges, full-spectrum cartridges, and even broad-spectrum options.
New to the world of CBD? Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Full-Spectrum CBD: These products contain a ‘full spectrum’ of cannabinoids and terpenes found in hemp. CBD products must contain less than 0.3% THC, but full-spectrum varieties have the highest amount out of all the varieties. Full-spectrum CBD usually has the strongest hemp flavor.
- Broad-Spectrum CBD: When a brand says broad-spectrum, it usually means a full range of cannabinoids, but with no THC whatsoever.
- CBD Isolate: This refers to a product which has all cannabinoids and terpenes removed, apart from CBD. It has the mildest flavor, and usually the highest concentration of CBD.
The type you choose is down to personal preference. Many CBD users believe full-spectrum CBD to be the most effective, because the body can utilize numerous cannabinoids.
Cannabinoid content aside, you can also purchase refillable and disposable cartridges. Disposable ones are, by far, the most common, but some brands offer refillable options. In this case, you will need to purchase a battery, a cartridge, and an e-liquid. Refillable cartridges offer more versatility, but may also be more expensive.
Danger, High Voltage!
Many vape pens today offer adjustable temperature settings. Every time you change the temperature, you change the voltage setting on the device. Manufacturers work really hard to keep vape devices safe, but there are always things to keep in mind.
Some cartridges use a cotton wick. These cartridges are a little more old-school, and they can’t withstand high voltages. Cotton wick cartridges work best at a voltage of 3.6-3.8.
Ceramic cartridges, meanwhile, operate best in the low 4s. It’s more common to see ceramic options these days, but you should always read the packet just to be sure.
Going too high with your voltage can burn the liquid, resulting in bad flavor and unpleasant experience. There’s also little information on the health effects of inhaling burned e-liquid, so it’s something you had best avoid.
If you buy a CBD cartridge starter kit, you can often use the vape pen provided by the brand, which is a surefire way to know that they are compatible.
Which Brand Sells the Best CBD Vape Cartridge?
In our ranking of the best CBD cartridges, we judged three brands according to: Flavor, safety, ease of use, potency, and price. It was even difficult to pick the three top brands, but in the end, we settled on:
- Just CBD
- Cheef Botanicals
- Medix CBD
1 – Best Tasting CBD Vape Cartridge
Selecting the best CBD cartridge in terms of flavor is difficult because it depends on personal preference. The brands on our list have a combination of cannabis flavored cartridges and other, more typical vaping flavors.
Medix CBD has three options, all of which are flavored with terpenes. In other words, they taste very much like hemp and cannabis. While the taste is refreshing and mild, it’s also not to everyone’s tastes.
Cheef Botanicals and Just CBD both sell a mixture of the two flavor types. Cheef Botanicals have nine flavors on offer, while Just CBD offers twelve. In our humble opinion, the Just CBD range is better, not only because it’s larger but also because there’s more variety.
Just CBD stocks a few different cannabis strain flavors. There are also fruits like Strawberry and dessert flavors like Vanilla Custard Cream. Please note that these cartridges may contain artificial flavorings, but all the ingredients are food-grade. Regardless, these were the most delicious cartridges we tried.
Winner by taste – Just CBD
2 – Best for Safety
When shopping for CBD products, it’s vital to check the ingredients and always buy from a brand with third-party lab reports. The main culprit for health issues in vape products is PEG and none of the products we’re reviewing contain this ingredient to our knowledge. Little is known about the long-term effects of propylene glycol (PG), but there is potential for risk here, too.
Cheef Botanicals provides lab reports for the CBD cartridge. The reports confirm that the cannabinoids listed on the packet are correct. However, the brand claims not to use PG, VG, MCT, or PEG; we’re not sure what the base of the e-liquid actually is!
Just CBD uses a blend of USP propylene glycol and VG, which is what most companies use. There are lab reports available on the website, and again these confirm the cannabinoid content of the products.
Out of the three, Medix CBD is the only brand that tests for heavy metals and mycotoxins. By the way, both of these compounds were not detected in the vape cartridges. However, Medix CBD doesn’t specify the base liquids used in its cartridges.
In the end, we think Medix CBD wins for safety, simply because you can search lab reports for specific batch numbers. That way, you can feel safe with every purchase.
Winner by safety – Medix CBD
3 – Best for Ease of Use
All of the brands made cartridges that are pretty easy to use. The Cheef Botanicals cartridges are compatible with any 510-threaded device, so all you need to do is click it into your vape pen and get puffing.
Similarly, the Just CBD cartridge works with any 510-thread battery that does 450mAh and above. It’s a slightly narrower usage but still works with most devices.
The Medix CBD cartridges actually come with a disposable battery attached, which means you can vape them straight out of the box with no other device necessary! As a result, we think this is the easiest cartridge to use because it requires no assembly.
Winner by ease of use– Medix CBD
4 – Best CBD Concentration
All three brands offer different concentrations of CBD. Cheef Botanicals offers two potency options: 200mg and 400mg. All of the Just CBD options contain 200mg. Medix CBD offers the highest amount of CBD, with a 500mg option alongside its 250mg offering.
However, you should note that the 500mg cartridge is simply larger than its 250mg counterpart. As a result, the concentration of CBD is the same. You get 2.5mg per puff with both cartridges.
Winner by concentration – Medix CBD
5 – Best Budget Pick
To choose the best pen on a budget, you could be looking for the cheapest CBD cartridge or the one that gives you the most bang for your buck. The cheapest overall is the Just CBD cartridges, costing just $15.99. The Signature Cartridges (based on cannabis strains) are $22.99, which is also cheaper than the other brands.
Here is the price per milligram of each brand’s most expensive option:
- Cheef Botanicals (400mg): $0.09 per milligram
- Just CBD (200mg Signature Cartridge): $0.11 per milligram
- Medix CBD (500mg): $0.12 per milligram
So, while Cheef Botanicals offers the best value for money when opting for a more potent cartridge, Just CBD offers the cheapest cartridge overall.
Winner by budget – Just CBD
Medix CBD is our top brand for vape cartridges based mainly on strength, ease of use, and safety. The lab reports are second to none and we love the fact that the three varieties are dedicated to providing different effects.
Nevertheless, Medix CBD only provides terpene-flavored CBD cartridges. If you’re looking for tastier flavors, then Just CBD would be our second choice.
Make sure you visit the Medix CBD website to explore the vaping range.
Overall Winner – Medix CBD
