The Recipe: What You Need to Know
This recipe isn’t just tasty. It goes above and beyond what you have come to know and love about fried chicken. Spoiler alert – The recipe only gets better and better every time we cook it!
We are big advocates of cannabis, so we had to incorporate a little twist. However, if you love chicken but don’t fancy the high, you could leave it out. But as you are on a website called WayofLeaf, we’re not sure why you would want to!

A Little Disclaimer About Edibles
We don’t want to put a dampener on what is sure to be your new favorite culinary experience. Alas, it is necessary to share a few things about cannabis edibles for those who are new or unfamiliar with them.
For many, combining cannabis with food or drink is seemingly a healthier alternative to smoking weed in a joint or bong. It is potentially beneficial if you have asthma, COPD, or are an elderly patient. However, it is essential to note that cannabis doesn’t work the same way when consumed orally as it does when inhaled.
When we smoke weed, we tend to feel the effects almost instantly; certainly within a few minutes. This usually serves as an excellent guide to how much you should have at any one time to avoid an unpleasant experience.
When we consume cannabis through edibles, however, it first must go through our digestive system before we feel the effects. It is here where many newbies can go wrong. We want to make it clear that if results aren’t felt within a few minutes, or even up to an hour, don’t worry! It is a normal process.
A standard error people make is to assume the weed hasn’t had an effect. As a result, they consume more edibles. Indulging in this manner will almost certainly have unwanted and unpleasant effects once the THC kicks in.

Okay, Enough of That, Let’s Get Cooking!
For this recipe, you are going to need some of that fabulous cannabis oil. We have shared the recipe before, but if you missed it, here it is again.
Making Cannabis Oil
What You Will Need
- 1-1.5 ounces of finely ground weed, trim or bud
- 28 ounces of oil
How to Make Cannabis Oil
- Boil your oil in the saucepan on a low to medium heat. Make sure it doesn’t burn as it causes an unpleasant taste.
- Once hot, drop in the weed and stir vigorously. It shouldn’t get too hot, so the continuous movement is essential!
- Let it slow cook for about 1.5-2 hours.
- Pour the mixture through cheesecloth into a jar.
- Store in the fridge and you’re done!
Ingredients for the Fried Chicken
- 4.33 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1.5 tablespoons of garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon (and 0.25 teaspoons) of ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- 0.5 teaspoons of poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 0.25 teaspoons of ground black pepper
- 2 egg yolks, beaten
- 1.5 cups of beer or water
- 0.5 quarts of vegetable oil for frying
- 0.5 quarts of canna oil
- A whole chicken (weighing approximately three pounds), cut into pieces
For the first step, you are going to need two separate bowls, since you are mixing different ingredients. In one bowl, mix three cups of the flour with the garlic salt, paprika, poultry seasoning, and a tablespoon of the black pepper.
In the other bowl, mix the rest of the flour with salt, the remaining pepper, egg yolks, and beer (or water). If the batter comes out too thick, add some additional liquid.
Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Moisten each piece of chicken with a little water, then dip in the dry mix. Shake off any excess water and dip the poultry in the wet mix. Then dip in the dry mix once more. The first goal is to get it tender; then you try to make the mixture stick.
Place the chicken in the oil and canna-oil combination and fry for around 18 minutes or until browned. Once you’ve removed the chicken from the stove, place it on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.

You can quite easily go to town on this delicious fried chicken all by itself. However, if you’re looking to make it more of a meal, or include it as part of a buffet, here are some of our favorite things to pair it with.
Who doesn’t love a smothering of ranch on their favorite dish? It is one of the most versatile sauces out there, and one that goes so well with this fried chicken recipe. We suggest decanting some into a pot and using it as a dip or even as a dressing for the chicken!
Whether you add it just for the décor (or Instagram pics), a fresh side salad can complement the heavy batter and flavor-packed chicken nicely. You can even add your ranch dressing to the salad for a perfect summer lunch!
If you’re going full-on binge mode, add fries. It doesn’t matter if you make them yourself or buy them from the store. You may feel as if you are buying takeaway food, but in reality, this is your dish. Fries are a match made in heaven for crispy fried chicken, so it would be rude not to include them here!
