It has only taken a few years for the edibles market to transform from a limited sub-niche to a megabucks industry in its own right. Up until recently, the simple pot brownie was the height of cannabis cuisine! However, there is now a massive array of edibles options from licensed dispensaries. They are legal recreationally or medicinally in dozens of states.
Estimates as to the value of the market vary significantly. One report claimed that marijuana-infused edibles would exceed $17 billion in sales by 2021! Whether this is an overstatement, it is clear that people LOVE eating weed.
With options such as ice-cream, chocolate, candy, and savory delights like marijuana pies and pizzas, all of our taste buds are covered.
Many of these edibles are potent, and some contain 100mg of THC. Trust us, that is a lot of THC, and probably too much for most users. For reference, novices should try 1-5mg to begin with.
However, cannabis-infused edibles are also extremely expensive. It isn’t unusual to pay $30+ for a single pot brownie. You can save cash by purchasing mids or top-shelf cannabis and creating edibles at home. If you have weed, and a desire to bake, you’re in the right place. We offer five of our favorite cannabis-infused recipes to tickle and tease your taste buds.
#1. Hash Yogurt – The Beginners Recipe
This simple hash yogurt recipe is ideal if you are incorporating cannabis into your cooking, for the first time. It is a treat you can enjoy at any time and makes for an awesome dessert. Best of all, you can make it in a matter of minutes with minimal ingredients.
What You’ll Need:
- A tub of yogurt (we love strawberry and chocolate for this recipe)
- Around a joint’s worth of hash (about 0.5 g is plenty)
- Oil (we recommend either butter or coconut oil)
- Cooking/frying pan
- Stove
What to Do:
- Pour the butter or coconut oil into the pot or frying pan over a low to medium heat.
- Crumble your hash into the melted cooking oil.
- After a couple of minutes over the heat, your oil and hash should begin to melt and combine.
- Use a spoon or small utensil to stir and mix the combination.
- Once thoroughly mixed, pour into the yogurt and combine.
- Eat and enjoy!
You can also make it without a stove or frying pan. Instead, use a lighter and a metal spoon, though this increases the risk of burning yourself! Here is how you do it:
- Pour some oil into the spoon, or smear butter on it.
- Crumble the weed onto the spoon.
- Heat the bottom of the spoon for a few minutes with your lighter. The oil/butter and pot combination should start to melt and solidify into one another. You’ll need to hold the lighter steady for a few minutes to decarboxylate the marijuana. You require heat to turn the THCA in raw weed into THC.
- After the mixture has an even consistency, mix it into the yogurt. Wait for it to cool, and eat!
#2. Nugtella – The Chocoholics Recipe
Though we wish we came up with this cool name, it is a real product. As you can probably guess, it is cannabis-infused Nutella. A San-Jose based company called Organicares sells jars of Nugtella. A one-cup jar contains 320mg of THC. However, you may find it hard to get your hands on some. Fortunately, you can make your own pretty easily with this recipe.
What You’ll Need:
- A jar of Nutella
- Cannabis-infused oil (here is the full recipe)
- A mixing bowl
What to Do:
- Place the Nutella into a mixing bowl. You’ll notice that we don’t recommend an amount. We will leave it entirely to your preferences.
- Mix in one dose of cannabis oil for every Nutella serving. Once mixed in, stir well until the oil is evenly distributed through the chocolate. You should no longer see the oil in the mixture.
Keep it stored in the fridge. You can eat it any way you like, straight from the jar or on a slice of bread.
Hazelnug Spread
As a bonus, we also have an alternative cannabis-infused hazelnut chocolate spread. You need the following ingredients for one cup’s worth:
- 75 grams of cream.
- 70 grams of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- 9-14 grams of cannabutter depending on potency.
- 40 grams of hazelnut butter.
- ½ tsp of organic hazelnut extract.
Here is how you make this intriguing recipe:
- Whisk the hazelnut butter and cream together in a saucepan.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat until it reaches a simmer.
- Remove from heat and pour the mixture over the chocolate chips. Allow it to sit for three minutes.
- Mix it with a whisk until the chips are dissolved, and your mixture is combined evenly.
- Add the hazelnut extract and cannabutter. Make sure both are at room temperature before use.
- Whisk until you melt the butter.
- Use a plastic wrap to cover the mixture and make sure the top of the chocolate touches the plastic. This can help prevent a ‘skin’ forming.
- Keep it in the fridge for at least an hour. At this point, you must remove from the refrigerator at least an hour before you intend to use it.
#3. Weed Ice Cream – The Chilled Recipe
Who doesn’t love good ice cream? It is perhaps the single most famous dessert of all time. There is maybe only one thing that could ever make it better: Cannabis! This marijuana ice cream makes for the perfect dessert (adults only!) and is pretty easy to make, too.
What You’ll Need:
- 500 ml of cream
- 75 g sugar
- 50 g of cannabutter
- Two saucepans
- Mixing bowl
What to Do:
- Heat the cream in a saucepan over medium heat, bringing it to a simmer.
- Using your other saucepan, melt the cannabis butter. Add the sugar and melt the two ingredients together. This will form a sweet and cannabis-rich liquid.
- To add flavor, mash the fruit of your choice in a mixing bowl. We love strawberries, but you can add any fruit you like.
- Once your fruit reaches the desired texture, combine all the ingredients, and add to a large container.
- Pop your mixture into the freezer for a few hours until frozen, then enjoy!
#4. Paleo Gummy Bears – The “Healthy” Recipe
Children and adults alike have enjoyed gummy bear sweets for as long as we can remember. However, for the health-conscious, these treats aren’t something we can indulge in regularly.
You can purchase cannabis-infused gummies, and some are relatively healthy with stevia and other organic sweeteners involved. However, they are often costly.
In case you were wondering, the ‘paleo’ diet involves feasting on ‘natural’ foods such as eggs, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts, etc. You must also avoid processed foods, sugars, and grains. These paleo gummy bears have a natural sweetener, but no processed ingredients! Make sure you keep your children away!
What You’ll Need:
- 2/3 cup pureed fruit (we suggest berries such as blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries, but any berry will do)
- 1/3 cup water
- One tablespoon of lemon juice
- Two tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
- 2-3 tsp cannabis tincture
- Three tablespoons of grass-fed gelatin (you will find this online or in some health food stores)
- Gummy bear molds
- A saucepan
What to Do:
- Combine your fresh fruit (or juice) into a saucepan with 1/3-cup water, lemon juice, sweetener. Place the mixture on medium-low heat.
- Add your cannabis tincture to the mix, and slowly whisk in the grass-fed gelatin.
- Continue whisking the mixture until it is smooth and well combined.
- Turn off the heat. Using a spoon or dropper, fill your mold with the mixture.
- After around 5 minutes in the freezer, or 15 in the fridge, your bears are ready to remove from the mold and enjoy!
WayofLeaf Tip: These Paleo gummy bears are full of great nutrients, and are the perfect treat for microdosing!
#5 Go Bananas – The Cheeky Recipe
You have doubtless heard and perhaps read many marijuana-infused banana bread recipes. While it is a delicious dessert, it takes skill to bake it to perfection. In contrast, our Go Bananas recipe is incredibly simple to make once you have cannabutter. It takes the humble frozen banana to another level.
What You’ll Need:
- Bananas sliced in half
- ½ tsp. cannabis oil or cannabutter per half a banana slice
- One tablespoon of chocolate chips (dark, milk, or white) per slice
- Heatproof bowl
- Parchment paper
What to Do:
- Place your chocolate chips and cannabis oil (or cannabutter) into a heatproof bowl.
- Heat slowly over a low temperature. Allow the mixture to gently melt without burning or ruining the cannabinoids in the oil. The boiling point of THC is around 315 degrees Fahrenheit. For CBD, it is somewhere in the 320-356-degree range. However, both sublimate off at lower temperatures. To stay on the safe side, don’t go above 250 degrees.
- Once melted, stir the mixture until it is smooth with no lumps or bumps.
- Add the chocolate to your bananas, ensuring they are well coated.
- Once you are happy with your bananas, place them on a parchment paper-lined baking tray. Place them in the freezer.
Once frozen, you are ready to indulge in your cannabis-infused treats.
5 Mind-Blowing Cannabis Recipes: Final Thoughts
If you love cannabis, you will find that these recipes are an ideal way to experiment with your consumption methods. Those who typically smoke or vaporize weed may discover that they like the convenience and clandestine nature of edibles.
However, you must realize that edibles work differently from other forms of consumption. If you smoke joints or vape cannabis oil, you typically feel the effects within a few minutes. With edibles, it can take up to two hours in some cases! Therefore, you must resist the urge to eat more THC than is recommended. Otherwise, you could experience an unpleasant outcome such as THC-induced paranoia.
When eating any cannabis edible, go low and slow! Take a small amount and WAIT! If nothing happens after a few hours or you want more of a buzz, only then should you consider using more.
Microdosing your edibles is a great way to control how much weed you consume. The process will help you to avoid any unpleasant side effects later on.
Enjoy!
