It’s October already?! Time, as always, has just flown by this year, and fall is well on its way. There are many holidays just around the corner, including Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. With all these exciting things to look forward to, there’s one thing that’s probably on everyone’s mind: Food.

Thinking about fall often conjures images of delightful foods: Pumpkins (and pumpkin spice lattes!), candy apples, butternut squash, cinnamon buns, and of course, roast dinners. A turkey is a classic emblem of fall, and a roast dinner is something most celebrators look forward to at Thanksgiving and Christmas

There’s literally only one thing that could make an improvement on the turkey roast: Cannabis.

Here at WayofLeaf, we love searching for fun and innovative ways to cook up cannabis delights in the kitchen. Now that the autumnal weather is creeping in, it got us thinking ­– why not make a marijuana turkey? As we discovered, there are at least three ways to whip up a cannabis roast dinner with a delicious turkey. Below, we run you through our top three ways to create this culinary masterpiece that will impress all your guests.

The Numerous Ways to Infuse Turkey Roast with Cannabis

We found several ways to make a pot-infused turkey roast, and we also decided to experiment with an infused cranberry sauce. Below, we cover three methods and let you know our favorite option.

Marijuana Marinade

Those who are passionate about their marijuana turkey may wish to prepare this mouth-watering marinade. You’ll need a meat injector to use this recipe, so it’s better for carnivores who are serious about meat. Luckily, you can grab an inexpensive meat injector online if you want to try this out.

The marinade features a base of cannabutter, cider vinegar, honey, and BBQ sauce. It’s absolutely delicious and infuses the meat with tons of flavor. It’s also pretty potent, so you’ll end up insanely high after chowing down on this recipe.

Of course, a BBQ marinade is not the most festive of flavors. While this marijuana-infused meat marinade is undeniably delicious, it’s not our method of choice for a holiday party. Still, it’s definitely one to try out.

To make it, combine ½ cup cannabutter, 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/3 cup honey, and 1.25 cups BBQ sauce in a bowl and whisk it together. Fill a meat injector with this mixture, then inject the meat 3-4 hours before it’s time to cook. The meat will be filled with flavor and super moist when it’s done.

Cannabis Cranberry Sauce

Cannabis-infused cranberry sauce was a bit of an innovation here at WayofLeaf. However, it’s definitely not our favorite method. You’ll need canna-oil to make this recipe, but it doesn’t sink into the sauce as well as it could. In the end, you find yourself with a slightly oily cranberry sauce. It’s still tasty, but there are better methods.

If you want to try this recipe, here’s what to do:

  1. Combine 2/3 cup sugar, 1/3 cup light brown sugar, 1/3 cup water, and 1/3 cup orange juice in a saucepan. Put it over medium heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add in 12oz cranberries and 1/4 cup of canna-oil. Stir the fruits and sugars to combine, then bring the cranberry sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook it for approximately 10-15 minutes until the berries have popped.
  3. Reduce the heat further and cook for another 10-15 minutes while the mixture thickens. Remember that it will thicken further as it cools.
  4. Transfer to a bowl and cook for at least 20 minutes, then refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

Meaty Marijuana Turkey Gravy

Our preferred method of making a cannabis turkey roast is to use meaty gravy infused with delicious weed. It’s surprisingly easy to do, and once again you’ll need some cannabutter. We will cover how to prepare this below.

For the cannabis-infused gravy, you’ll need to make the turkey first. The lovely fat drippings will go into the gravy, along with cannabutter, flour, turkey broth, and some seasoning. Melt the turkey fat in a medium-sized saucepan, then add flour, broth, cannabutter, and seasonings. Melt it all together and then serve nice and warm. Bon appetit!

Serving Suggestions

A roast dinner is a pretty personal dish. Whatever you add will depend on your personal preferences and what you enjoy eating. To make a truly autumnal, festive plate, you will need some of the following:

  • Roast turkey (obviously!)
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Turkey gravy
  • Roast or mashed potatoes
  • Steamed broccoli
  • Parsnips, swede, and turnips
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Peas and green beans
  • Stuffing

Best Strains to Use for a Turkey Roast

Almost any strain will work fantastically in this cannabis gravy recipe. However, there are a couple of cannabis strains that are particularly excellent and lend something to the flavor of the turkey.

Super Lemon Haze

This citrusy number is akin to infusing a roast chicken with lemon. As a result, it adds a pleasant zing to the gravy that you won’t find with many other strains.


Alongside its tasty lemon flavor, Super Lemon Haze is a sativa-dominant hybrid that’s perfect for social occasions. It will have you feeling energized and sociable, ready to take charge of the conversation.

With a THC content of 20%, you may need to be careful how much you use, though!

OG Kush

A classic strain with a savory flavor, OG Kush is ideal for adding to any edible recipes that aren’t sweet treats. It has a stellar reputation in the cannabis community, and for a good reason! OG Kush will melt away any negative thoughts, again making it a fantastic social strain.

How to Make Canna-Butter and Canna-Oil

Whether you choose to make canna-marinade, canna-gravy, or canna-cranberry sauce, you’ll need to know how to make cannabutter or canna-oil. You might decide to make a marijuana-infused combo, so you may need both.

They follow a pretty similar process either way. Begin by grinding up your cannabis of choice. Then, decarboxylate it using the process in this guide.

Next, the instructions split off:

  • For cannabutter, add the decarbed weed to a crockpot with equal parts butter and water. Cook the butter mixture on a low heat for 3 hours, then strain the mixture through a cheesecloth. Leave the cannabutter to set in the fridge, then drain the water out.
  • For canna-oil, add the ground buds to a saucepan with cooking oil. Simmer the oil mixture on a low heat for three hours, stirring occasionally. Strain the mixture through a cheesecloth into a jar or bottle, leave to cool, and enjoy as needed.

Marijuana-Infused Turkey Roast Recipe


Now for the good part! Here’s how to make a delicious roast turkey with cannabis-infused gravy. Remember to plan ahead and factor in the timings of the other parts of your roast.


  • 4kg turkey, at room temperature
  • 1 sprig sage
  • 12 strips streaky bacon
  • 1 bulb garlic
  • 3 red onions
  • A handful of breadcrumbs
  • 300g minced pork
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 large egg
  • 12 sprigs rosemary
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 liters chicken or turkey stock
  • 2 teaspoons grated nutmeg

For the Gravy

  • ¼ cup fat from the turkey drippings
  • 1 tablespoon cannabutter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 cups turkey broth (use the bones from the turkey to make a broth)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  1. Preheat the oven to its highest temperature.
  2. In a saucepan (you only need a small one) with a dash of oil, add the sage leaves and 6 of the bacon strips. While these fry, peel and chop 2 garlic cloves and 1 onion. Fry everything together until soft and golden-brown.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat to stir in the breadcrumbs. This makes a stuffing.
  4. When the stuffing has cooled, add in the pork mince, zest from the lemon, nutmeg, egg, and a generous amount of seasoning.
  5. Slice the remaining bacon in half, then peel and slice one garlic clove into slivers. Place a single rosemary sprig and a garlic sliver at the end of the bacon strip, then roll it tightly. Repeat with the other pieces until there are 12 rolls in total.
  6. Pierce the thighs and drumsticks of the turkey in 6 places on each side. Push a bacon roll into each hole.
  7. Peel and chop the remaining onions in half and thickly slice the carrots.
  8. Wipe down the turkey, then place it on a board with the neck facing you. Peel back the skin, then lift it loose and spoon the stuffing inside.
  9. Weigh the turkey with the stuffing and calculate the cooking time – it’s about 20 minutes per 1lb 2oz.
  10. Place it on a roasting dish, rub with olive oil, and season it well. Cover the rest of the tray with the carrots, onions, and garlic. Cover the meat and veg with tin foil and then add to the oven for the correct length of time.
  11. Remove the aluminum foil for the last 45 minutes to brown the turkey.
  12. Remove the turkey from the tray and rest on a foiled board for 1 hour. When this time is up skim the surface fat from the roasting tray to begin making the gravy.
  13. Add the fat to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour until it melts together, then add the broth, cannabutter, and some salt and pepper. Whisk the mixture and then cook until it begins to thicken, then carve the turkey and serve with the gravy.
