When you think of marijuana edibles, meatloaf probably isn’t the first thing that springs to mind. Most often, people think of sweet treats and desserts. As it turns out, marijuana can be a culinary delight that pairs perfectly well with full meals.

How to Infuse Meatloaf with Marijuana

There are multiple ways to impress your dinner guests by infusing meatloaf with THC. The most common is probably to use cannabutter, although you could technically use canna-milk.

For those who don’t know, cannabutter is an essential ingredient in any cannabis kitchen. It consists of regular butter infused with a hefty amount of marijuana. To make it, you will need butter, water, and your favorite cannabis strain.

First of all, coarsely grind the marijuana buds and scatter them on a baking tray. Then, it’s time to decarboxylate the buds by baking them for about 45 minutes. This process converts the cannabinoids from their acidic form (e.g. THCA) to their regular form (e.g. THC). It ensures that the cannabis will have an effect on your body. When smoking, the buds are decarboxylated during burning. However, for edibles, you have to do it beforehand.

After decarboxylating the buds, it’s time to make cannabutter. Add equal parts butter and water to a crockpot and then stir in the plant matter. Stir to combine, then heat the mixture to a simmer. The water will stop the butter from burning, but you still need to ensure that the mixture never boils. Stir it occasionally and cook for about three hours.

Once the cannabutter is ready, strain it through a cheesecloth into a container and put it in the fridge. The water and butter will separate out, allowing you to discard the water. You should be left with a hardened block of cannabutter!

As you can see, making cannabutter takes a while, so make sure you plan ahead. Thankfully, it’s used in tons of cannabis recipes, so you can make lots and use it repeatedly.

The Best Strains to Use for Marijuana Meatloaf

You’ll be pleased to know that there is a perfect strain to use in marijuana meatloaf. It’s called, uninventively, Meatloaf. The Meatloaf strain is a 70% indica-dominant hybrid with a very meaty flavor. It also has notes of skunk and spice that lend some excellent undertones to any meat dish.

Meatloaf has an average THC level of 15-19%, which is not too overwhelming. Still, it’s enough to give you a decent high. Beware, though, that Meatloaf may have you falling asleep soon after taking it. So, once those edibles kick in a few hours later, you’ll soon be drifting off!

Alternatively, you can use most strains in this cannabis-infused meatloaf dish. ‘Savory’ strains work best – ones that lack fruity and sugary flavors. Opt for strains like White Widow that are hashy and spicy, rather than sweet.

Cannabis Meatloaf: What You Will Need

Every meatloaf requires some basic ingredients. You’ll need ground beef, eggs, milk, saltine crackers, cannabutter, herbs, onions, and a sauce. There are lots of sauce to use as a glaze, and that depends on your preferences; we have some ideas in the next section.

You’ll also need a sturdy baking tray and an oven. Other equipment includes mixing bowls and equipment for mixing, such as a wooden spoon. Luckily, you really don’t need much else.

The best part is that you don’t really need any cooking skills, either! Meatloaf is a very simple dish that doesn’t take long to master.

Serving Suggestions

People like to serve meatloaf with various sauces and glazes. For some people, tomato ketchup is the perfect glaze; for others, a more intricate sauce is better. Here are some ideas:

Rather than using ketchup right out the bottle, combine it with sugar and Worcestershire sauce. It makes it stickier, sweeter, and slightly spicier, lending a lot more flavor to the meatloaf.

BBQ Sauce:

Any BBQ sauce works fantastically as a meatloaf glaze. However, you can make an easy BBQ sauce at home to personalize it some more. Combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, sugar, and strawberry jam. Whisk it until smooth, and cover the meatloaf with this sticky BBQ sauce.

Garlic and Herb

More uniquely, you can opt for a garlic and herb concoction. Combine melted butter, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add in some mayonnaise and stir it all together, then use this as a glaze. You may like to use some water to loosen the sauce off a bit.

Any of these sauce ideas can be made into a cannabis concoction, too. Simply add cannabutter to the mix; in the case of the last option, use cannabutter in place of regular butter. This adds an extra kick to the recipe that will have you high as a kite in no time. Keep in mind that sweeter strains work better in these sauces.

Other side dishes for meatloaf include mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, and broccoli. Our personal favorite is to use a cannabis-infused mashed potato dish. Melt the cannabutter into softened potato, mash it all together, and whisk through some rosemary and a splash of milk. Delicious!

Marijuana Meatloaf Recipe

A world-class meatloaf is one that is moist and tender without being greasy. It should also be packed full of flavor. Our WayofLeaf meatloaf recipe is all this and more because it also contains delicious cannabis. Before cooking, make sure you have at least 3 tablespoons of cannabutter prepared.

You Will Need:

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ cup onion, finely diced
  • 3 tablespoons cannabutter, melted
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup crushed saltine crackers
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sage
  • 1 cup sauce, any flavor (see above)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350˚F.
  2. In a bowl, combine the milk and saltine crackers. Allow to soak into a panade where the crackers are soft. Then, whisk in the egg, salt, pepper, sage, and melted cannabutter.
  3. Add the ground beef to a large mixing bowl. Then, stir in the onion. Slowly add the milk mixture and mix until combined; a wooden spoon works well for this.
  4. Line a baking tray with paper or foil, then add the meat. Shape it into a loaf with your hands, using water to smooth out the cracks.
  5. Bake in the center of the oven for about 20 minutes.
  6. Then, remove the meatloaf and spoon ½ cup of the sauce of your choice over the top. Return to the oven.
  7. Bake for another 5-7 minutes, then add the rest of the sauce. Finally, cook for another 10-15 minutes until the internal temperature is about 160˚.
  8. Serve with sides of your choice.
