As is typical of any emerging market, the CBD industry is finding all sorts of exciting ways to market hemp extracts. While CBD oils (with their perceived medical benefits) continue to dominate the market, there are other products to choose from. CBD pills, CBD edibles, and CBD topical lotions are all increasing in popularity.

Of course, some of these new and exciting products are nothing more than silly marketing gimmicks.

Regardless, one particular area where the market has seen a concerning lack of quality products is in certified kosher CBD oil. It would seem this would be a market most any major brand would want to corner. In reality, few companies have taken the initiative to get their tinctures certified by the Orthodox Union.

That is, until now.

In this article, we discuss what exactly kosher CBD oil is, how it’s made, and where you can get it – no matter where you live. Enjoy.

Kosher CBD Oil? Wait…. What does ‘kosher’ even mean?

If you’ve ever searched ‘where can I buy kosher CBD oil,’ we’ll assume you’re familiar with the term ‘kosher.’ For everyone else, let us explain.

‘Kosher’ simply refers to food and drink products that use ingredients acceptable by orthodox Jewish law. Under the Orthodox Union definition, Kosher foods are “permitted to be eaten and can be used as ingredients in the production of additional food items.”

Most marketing labels hemp (and its CBD extracts) as food and nutrition supplements. With this in mind, it makes sense for there to be a demand for high-quality kosher CBD oils.

By most interpretations, kosher food falls into three broad categories: meats, dairy, and pareve. Since cannabis is neither meat nor dairy, one would correctly assume that CBD hemp oil falls under the category ‘pareve.’ Pareve just refers to something that is neither meat nor fish.

Pareve constitutes “fewer kosher complexities” (according to the OK Kosher Certification group) than meat or dairy. Still, there are a few requirements in order for a pareve item to be kosher:

  • A pareve food item may lose its status if it’s processed with meat or dairy equipment, or with additives.
  • Fruit, vegetable, and grain products (i.e. hemp/cannabis) must not contain insects and/or insect larvae. All forms of insects are explicitly non-kosher.

What about other non-kosher foods?

But what about other non-kosher food items? According to Torah law, all of the following are strictly non-kosher. Those who observe the orthodox Jewish faith do not (or should not) consume them:

  • Pork
  • Shellfish and crustaceans
  • Fish that do not have scales or fins
  • Animals that do not have cloven hooves (i.e. pigs, hares/rabbits, rodents, etc.)
  • Animals that do not ruminate (i.e. horses)
  • All reptiles
  • Most invertebrates/insects

The complete laws of kosher food and drink are complex. They’re also open to various degrees of interpretation (depending on the level of orthodoxy). If you desire more information, here is a more thorough explanation of what the term kosher means).

Finally, it’s important to point out that even if a food or drink ingredient is kosher, it must be prepared in a specific manner. For example, it may not be manufactured together with a non-kosher ingredient.

Now that you have some idea of what the term kosher means, let’s answer the question ‘what is kosher CBD oil.’ Also, let’s talk a little about where you can find some for sale.

Kosher CBD oil: What it is, and where to buy it

If you do some online searching, you might find a handful of kosher cannabis brands. However, there is only one brand we’re aware of that goes through the requisite steps of gaining kosher CBD oil certification. That brand is the United Kingdom’s Provacan label. In case you’ve never heard of them, the firm is a sister company of the Israeli biotech research organization CiiTECH.

CiiTECH works out of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In fact, they are currently sponsoring two clinical trials on the use of CBD for obesity and asthma. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is home to some of the most advanced cannabis-based research in the world. In fact, it is home to the “father of modern cannabis” himself, Dr. Raphael Mechoulam.

Provacan CBD is relatively new on the UK hemp market. However, the brand already has a reputation as one of the highest-quality CBD oil tinctures available. They offer shipping everywhere in the UK, and are working to add the USA to their list of shippable countries.

Given their close affiliation with Israel and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, it makes sense that Provacan would be one of the first companies to take the appropriate steps in gaining legitimate certification for a kosher CBD oil.

This is a brand that consistently ranks as one of the best and most reputable CBD brands in the United Kingdom, so if you are looking to buy kosher CBD products, we highly recommend them as your go-to source.

Also, they offer a range of other products in addition to their kosher CBD oils. For instance, they offer pre-measured CBD capsules which you can swallow whole with a sip of water. They also have a reputable line of CBD skin products, including CBD sunscreen. Check out their official website to browse their entire range —  you’ll probably be impressed by what they’ve got available.

Also, if you’re a resident of the EU Provacan does ship to many European countries. This would be a good option since many of the top American brands do not ship internationally.

Final thoughts on kosher CBD oil and other kosher hemp-based products

It is about time that someone stepped up to the plate to add a well-made, top-shelf kosher CBD oil for sale to the global marketplace. While the hemp industry has seen countless amounts of new products developed for the sheer sake of increasing sales, kosher CBD is no doubt a product that the market desperately needed, and it couldn’t have come from a more highly-esteemed or reputable brand than Provacan.

If you’ve been on the lookout for a reliable kosher CBD oil (or other kinds of kosher CBD products), be sure to give them a call or check out their online store at www.Provacan.co.uk.
