 Full Social CBD Review

If you take a close look at the CBD market, you’ll notice that the vast majority of companies were founded in 2018 or later. This is unsurprising as one could say that year was the beginning of the CBD boom. Unfortunately, a significant number of these brands were ‘quick buck’ operations hoping to cash in on a thriving industry.

The result is an utterly saturated market with thousands of brands trying to climb to the top of the CBD ladder. Social CBD is one of these new companies. It launched with the usual lofty aims but has found the going tough. Let’s find out more about the brand in this exclusive review.

The Complete Social CBD Review

Founded and launched in 2019 to great fanfare, Social CBD was initially created as a new iteration of the Select CBD brand. Sentia Wellness, founded by former Cura Partners Inc. executives, owned the brand and had big ambitions. Upon its launch, Angelo Lombardi, then the president of Social CBD, said the company knew their supply chain as well as it could be known, and they knew exactly what they were selling.

The brand launched online and became available in 10,000 retail stores across the United States. The plan was to increase that figure to 20,000 by the end of 2019. Sentia signed a lease on an enormous 175,000 square foot facility in Portland, Oregon. It invested $30 million in technology to ensure inventory supply acceleration. Overall, Sentia raised $91 million, and success seemed assured.

Social CBD immediately garnered attention from the moment it launched in 2019. It’s an exciting brand with a lot to offer.

However, Social CBD encountered problems from the very beginning. Within five months, Sentia had laid off 20% of its staff. The company blamed uncertainty over how federal health regulators would handle CBD. After Sentia tried to cancel the lease for its HQ in Pearl District, its landlord sued. Then, an Italian chocolate company accused Sentia of backing out of a manufacturing equipment deal and initiated legal action.

Finally, in June 2021, Sentia sold Social CBD to Kadenwood, a privately held organization operating out of Southern California. It will be interesting to see whether Social CBD’s sales will increase or decrease going forward.

The Social CBD Process

The brand pledges to create products formulated to enhance the quality of customers’ lives. It claims only to use scientific formulations and proven natural ingredients. Social CBD promises that its entire range is THC-free. The company offers a combination of broad-spectrum and CBD isolate products.

It is encouraging to note that the brand tests its products five times in total. This helps guarantee minimal amounts of heavy metals, solvents, and pesticides inside products. It is easy to find third-party lab reports; go to the bottom of the official website’s page and look for ‘Test Results.’ Overall, Social CBD tests for 30 pesticides and 58 unwanted residual contaminants.

Columbia Laboratories from Portland conducts the tests, although we wonder if that will change since Social CBD’s new owner is from California. The vast majority of the lab reports are from the last eight or nine months, which is encouraging.

The official website also has a basic CBD 101 section which is pretty short and a blog. The blog posts don’t have dates on them, so we don’t know how updated they are.

One slight concern is that the brand doesn’t use CO2 extraction. Instead, it uses ethanol extraction for its CBD isolate products. Although its lab reports test for residual solvents, some customers may be against this form of extraction.

Social CBD uses a distillation extraction method for its broad-spectrum products. This process involves concentrating CBD to produce a clear, golden liquid. Now that we know more about Social CBD and its processes let’s see if its products are worth your hard-earned money!

Social CBD: CBD Drops Review

Social CBD calls CBD oil ‘drops.’ They are available in broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate form. You can get broad-spectrum drops in concentrations of 375mg, 750mg, and 1500mg. Choose between the following flavors:

  • Unflavored
  • Meyer Lemon
  • Cinnamon Leaf
  • Vanilla Mint
  • Pomegranate Tea
  • Blood Orange
  • Acai Berry

The latter two flavors are NOT available in the 375mg concentration. The drops are sugar-free, soy-free, and vegan. All three concentrations come in 30ml of liquid. Therefore, while you get 12.5mg of CBD per ml in the 375mg bottle, the 1500mg provides 50mg of CBD per ml. The only ingredients are hemp extract, MCT coconut oil, and natural flavors. As it is broad-spectrum, there is 0% THC.

The CBD isolate drops consist of pure CBD isolate with no other cannabinoids. You can purchase the drops in the following flavors:

  • Peppermint
  • Lemon Ginger
  • Unflavored
  • Lavender

The available CBD concentrations are 500mg, 1000mg, and 2000mg. Apart from hemp extract, the drops contain ashwagandha, natural oils, stevia, fractionated coconut oil, and Rhodiola. According to Social CBD, this uplifting blend helps stabilize your mood. Once again, there is 30ml of liquid regardless of the CBD concentration.

When using CBD isolate or broad-spectrum drops, place them beneath your tongue, hold for 60-90 seconds, and swallow.

Social CBD: CBD Gel Capsules Review

The brand’s gel capsules range is ideal if you want to use CBD without the taste. All you have to do is swallow one with a glass of water. There are five options:

gel capsules

  • Rest: Includes 75mg of valerian and 75mg of passionflower per capsule.
  • Boost: Includes 75mg of moringa and 75mg of yerba mate per capsule.
  • Balance
  • Recover: Includes 5mg of black pepper and 150mg of turmeric per serving.
  • Extended Release

The first four options all come in a container with 30 x 33.3mg CBD isolate capsules. Each one has additional ingredients for a different purpose. For example, the Rest capsules are designed to help you relax and sleep.

The Extended Release capsules are slightly different. They include 50mg of broad-spectrum CBD apiece, with 12-hour targeted release technology. You can purchase a 5-pack or a 30-pack.

Social CBD – A Note on Vape Products

An important element of this Social CBD review is the brand’s stance on its vaping products. Social CBD’s vape pen range was considered one of the best CBD vaping options on the market. However, an update to the Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children (PACT) Act has caused havoc in the CBD vaping industry.

The new law, passed by Congress, prevents the United States Postal Service from delivering vape products directly to a consumer’s home. The PACT Act also made it significantly more expensive for brands to use services like UPS and FedEx to deliver vape pens and accessories. Therefore, many brands, including Social CBD, have decided to stop shipping vape products.

If you enjoy Social CBD’s vaping range, you can still find products on third-party websites.

Yes, you can also purchase CBG drops, pet products, gummies, and topicals. The CBG drops contain 1500mg of CBG in a 30ml bottle.

Each gummy contains 12.5mg of broad-spectrum CBD, and you can purchase a 10-pack or a 60-pack. The Blackberry Mint gummies also contain 75mg of valerian root extract and 200mg of lemon balm per serving, which Social CBD sets at two gummies.

The topicals range contains the usual suspects, including:

  • CBD Muscle Rub
  • CBD Lip Balm

Despite the change of ownership, you can still purchase Social CBD products on its official website. Kadenwood Brands has maintained its new acquisition’s 30-day refund policy. However, the item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it.

The brand offers various shipping options, including Free Standard Shipping and UPS Next Day Air. Orders usually take one business day to process, and it takes up to three further business days to receive your order within the United States. Shipping is free for orders worth $99+. Otherwise, it costs $5.99.

At present, Social CBD only ships within the United States.

Social CBD Oil Review: Our Final Thoughts

Social CBD is a brand that has encountered issues from the beginning. With a new owner, we’re interested to see whether it can succeed in such a competitive market. It offers a reasonable degree of CBD products and ticks the boxes regarding third-party lab reports. However, there is nothing new or exciting about Social CBD, and some customers may not approve of the fact it doesn’t use CO2 extraction or offer full-spectrum products.

The products are reasonably priced, and you can save money with one of the company’s many promotions. Overall, Social CBD is a ‘decent’ brand and nothing more. There are plenty of others worth considering ahead of them. On the plus side, it does have an extensive FAQ page where you can learn just about anything you need to know about the brand and its processes.

Final Verdict: 8/10
