Dragonfly CBD Complete Review
The cannabidiol (CBD) market has quickly become a global phenomenon. A few years ago, it was little more than a curiosity, but when initial users found relief from conditions such as chronic pain, anxiety, and even depression, CBD rapidly became the ‘next big thing’ in health supplements.
It is one of 113 identified cannabinoids in the Cannabis Sativa L. plant and unlike THC, it is non-intoxicating. Research suggests that CBD acts on the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) and you can consume it in a variety of ways. As a result, CBD sellers offer oils, balms, edibles, and much more.
One of the main issues with the CBD market is the lack of regulation. At WayofLeaf, we aim to alleviate some of the confusion surrounding the cannabis plant’s cannabinoids with informative articles. We also hope to help steer you in the direction of high-quality CBD brands, or at the very least, keep you away from disreputable companies. Today, we take a look at Dragonfly CBD.
Who Is the Dragonfly Hemp Company?
Dragonfly CBD oil is created by a larger enterprise named Dragonfly Biosciences. Co-founded by Radost Draganova, Mark Grenside, and Chris Wronski in 2017, Dragonfly Biosciences claims it is one of Europe’s leading producers of CBD and cannabis-derived extracts.
The company used a 25-acre plot of land in Bulgaria to farm and distribute its CBD products and brought Dragonfly CBD to the market in 2018. These days, the Dragonfly Wholesale company works on 1,600 acres of organically certified Bulgarian soil. It also has a GMP-certified production facility, not to mention a high-tech extraction facility.
The company’s vertical integration ensures it is in charge of every aspect of cultivation, production, packaging, and shipping.
Within months, the Dragonfly CBD brand had gained prominence in the UK and was picked up by Boots towards the end of 2018. By early 2019, Tesco and Harrods were also aboard the Dragonfly CBD train.
There is even a Dragonfly Community, which aids local grassroots charities to help vulnerable people with mental health issues. The brand has pledged to donate £1 directly from every sale on its official website to these charitable organizations.
A Detailed Process
All of the brand’s CBD products come from cannabis plants cultivated on Dragonfly farms. It doesn’t offer CBD isolate. Instead, its products are filled with numerous cannabinoids and terpenes. All of its lab results are backed up with third-party testing.
Dragonfly outlines its 5-step process from seed to shelf on the website:
- All Cannabis Sativa L. Plants are grown organically five months before harvest.
- Once the crop is harvested, it is transported to the company’s processing facility, and the flowers are separated from the seeds, leaves, and stems.
- The CBD-rich flowers are soaked in ethanol to ensure full-spectrum CBD is extracted; this includes terpenes, cannabinoids, and waxes.
- The resulting oil is refined using advanced fractional distillation and chromatography techniques.
- The last step involves formulating the extract with organic hemp seed oil and bottling it at its facility.
Dragonfly CBD conducts detailed testing at every stage of the process. However, it is a little frustrating that these reports aren’t available on the website. You can only access the Certificates of Analysis (COAs) by entering the batch number of a product on the official website.
Type 0047 into the batch number box, for instance, and you get a report for Dragonfly’s 500mg Orange flavored CBD oil. It is dated June 2021, and a company called Eurofins performed the testing. The report showed that the oil was 6.0435% CBD and contained less than 0.0025% delta 9 THC.
The brand tries to justify its ethanol extraction process by claiming it extracts a greater range of compounds from hemp than CO2 extraction. However, many people disagree with the use of ethanol extraction in CBD products.
Review of Dragonfly CBD Oil
For most brands, CBD oil is the most important product. As far as Dragonfly is concerned, it accounts for over half its entire product range! As a result, they are under pressure to deliver high-quality tinctures in a saturated market. There are four types of Dragonfly CBD oil available:
- Narrow-spectrum CBD oil
- Broad-spectrum CBD oil
- Flavoured CBD oil
- Vitamin D CBD oil
Narrow-Spectrum Dragonfly CBD Oil
This is Dragonfly’s best-selling product, and is available in seven concentrations:
- 300mg of CBD – 10ml of oil
- 500mg – 10ml
- 1000mg – 10ml
- 1000mg – 30ml
- 1500mg – 30ml
- 2000mg – 30ml
- 3000mg – 30ml
The strongest concentration provides an impressive 100mg of CBD per ml. The ingredients consist of nothing but organic hemp seed oil and Cannabis Sativa L. extract. As with all CBD oils, you place the drops beneath the tongue for up to a minute before swallowing. You get the usual bitter plant taste which is a good thing because it is typically a sign of high-quality CBD.
Dragonfly offers customers a chance to subscribe and save 30% each month. This is a service that ensures your chosen CBD product is delivered to your door automatically.
Broad-Spectrum Dragonfly Oil
According to Dragonfly, its broad-spectrum oil has a thicker consistency and fuller flavor than then narrow-spectrum oil because of the higher amount of plant matter. It is recommended to experienced users and comes in three strength options; all bottles contain 10ml of liquid:
- 270mg
- 450mg
- 900mg
The lowest strength option is typically only useful for general relaxation. If you use CBD for chronic pain, for instance, you’ll probably need a higher concentration of the cannabinoid. According to users, the stronger taste of the broad-spectrum oil is noticeable compared to its narrow-spectrum counterpart.
Flavoured Dragonfly CBD Oil
This is much like the broad and narrow-spectrum options, but with added natural flavouring and stevia to provide a sweeter taste. There are four flavours to choose from:
- Anise
- Cinnamon
- Orange
- Peppermint
You can only purchase it in a 500mg bottle with 10ml of oil. It makes for a reasonable starter option, but if you want flavoured CBD oil with a greater concentration of the cannabinoid, there are many other brands worth checking.
Vitamin D Dragonfly CBD Oil
Once again, this is effectively the narrow-spectrum oil with 500µg added per 500mg bottle. There is 10ml of oil, which means you get 50mg of CBD and 50µg of Vitamin D3 per ml. For reference, the RDA for vitamin D is 600-800µg, while the Vitamin D council recommends up to 2,000µg. Therefore, one wonders whether it is worth your while taking such a small amount in this oil.
Review of Dragonfly’s CBD Skincare Range
There are also three skincare products:
- Relieving CBD Lip Balm SPF15
- CBD Hydrating Body Moisturiser
- CBD Hydrating Daily Face Cream
The Lip Balm is the least expensive product on the site and contains 50mg of CBD. Using it involves applying it to your lips as required, although you may need to use it daily for best results.
The Body Moisturiser contains a variety of ingredients designed to keep your skin feeling smooth and soft. You can purchase it in the following CBD concentrations:
- 300mg
- 500mg
- 1000mg
The Daily Face Cream contains a few different ingredients and can help protect the skin on your face from the daily damage it is exposed to. It is available in 300mg and 500mg CBD concentrations.
Dragonfly’s CBD Bundles
In general, Dragonfly’s CBD products are at a competitive price point. However, you can save a significant amount of money by purchasing one of their bundles. For instance, it is possible to buy 3 x 3000mg in the brand’s 9,000mg bundle for a price that equates to a 3 for 2 offer. Its high strength bundle, consisting of two broad-spectrum 900mg bottles and one narrow-spectrum 1000mg bottle, is similarly priced.
While this is great news, one can’t help but wonder if this is a clever way to disguise the general lack of products on the Dragonfly website.
Can I Purchase Dragonfly’s CBD Products in Boots?
Yes! Typically, we recommend that you purchase a CBD brand’s products directly from their website. However, you can also purchase Dragonfly CBD products from Boots, one of the most reputable stores in the UK. At present, you can’t purchase the 3000mg CBD oil option on the Boots website, nor does it sell any Dragonfly skincare products.
The brand offers free delivery within the UK and has no minimum spend requirement.
If you want next day delivery, it costs £5 extra, and it is not available on bank holidays or weekends. Dragonfly uses Royal Mail’s recorded delivery service, and you need to sign for the items upon receipt.
If you are not happy with the products, you have 14 days to cancel your order from the day you receive your products. Please note that Dragonfly only accepts items that are still in their original packaging and unopened. You must also pay for the cost of returning the products.
If your order arrives damaged or else you receive the incorrect items, take a photo and send it to [email protected], along with the order’s reference number. Dragonfly aims to respond within 48 hours.
Final Thoughts on Dragonfly CBD
Dragonfly CBD has built up a loyal following and a reputation for being a trustworthy brand despite only being formed in 2018. It is obvious from the packaging and corporate websites that Dragonfly is a highly professional outfit. It would be great if they sold more items, but on the face of it, you have to respect a brand for choosing to specialize in a product and sticking with it.
The result is a high-quality CBD oil that is suitable for individuals with various ailments. Ultimately, you know you’re getting good quality CBD oil from a reputable company, and that means a lot in an unregulated industry.
Final Verdict – 8.5/10
