Here’s How to Properly Store Bud So You’ll Never Lose Potency!

We often discuss smoking the stuff, but we never talk about storing it. Think about it; you’ve just come home from your local dispensary with a gram of some of their finest bud. You’re not really going to smoke all of it at once, are you?

You’ll probably store it or stash it somewhere for another time. Well, when it comes to storing your cannabis, the method you choose will have a major effect on how long your buds remain fresh. This is crucial, as you don’t want to find your buds turning brown.

In this quick guide, we are going to tell you 3 effective ways to store your cannabis buds so that they will stay fresh and maintain their potency for months, even years.

1) Air-tight Glass Jars

This should be a no-brainer, as every dispensary does it. The problem is that most people buy their weed and then stash in the cupboard. That is a big NO NO!

The best way to store cannabis buds is to keep them in a glass mason, in a cool dark area (60-70°F or 15-21°C). UV Sunrays cause bud potency to diminish, so make sure it’s dark.

Glass mason jars are #1 on our list as they get the job done. They protect your buds from moisture and air. One thing to remember when using jars is never to fill them to the top. No one likes being squashed, including your buds 😉

2) Freeze Your Buds

store weed in freezer

This might seem very weird, but you can freeze your buds. Once they have been stored outside for a couple of weeks, simply place them into freezer bags and wrap them in foil. You can also use your glass mason jars from the previous method. Do not refrigerate them as they will mold. Avoid using plastic bags as air will tend to get into the bag, eventually ruining the bud. Also, please be careful when handling your buds using this method as your trichomes can break off easily.

3) Boveda Packs

Sometimes called Humidipaks (their old brand name), the newly renamed Boveda Packs can turn any airtight space into a cannabis humidor. The 62% Boveda Packs are specially designed for storing cannabis and can be placed in a sealed container with your buds to regulate the humidity to the ideal level for marijuana storage.

If you intend to store your bud for an extended period, then you must dry and cure your bud before storage. Always wait for buds to cure for at least four weeks before long-term storage. They need to be dry; otherwise, mold will start to appear and ruin your bud.
