How to Get Job in the Cannabis Industry in an Illegal State?

A week ago we got a few emails asking us “How can I get a job in the cannabis industry if I live in an illegal state?”.

Well, first off, you obviously can’t sell the stuff as you don’t want to risk a felony, but, despite what you might think there are a few things you can do, especially if you are looking for a career change.

In this article, we are going to reveal to you a few different ways that you can make an income from the industry even if you live in an illegal state.

1) Become a Marijuana Writer

If you’ve been smoking the stuff for a while, then you probably know a thing or two about the plant. There are many new companies popping up at the moment and most of them have websites. For these websites they need content. They basically need people that understand marijuana and can write about it.

Sounds easy, right? Well, it’s actually easier said than done. First of all, you have to have a knack for writing. You don’t have to be a journalist, but you do have to know how to write compelling, intriguing articles. Think about it, no one wants to read boring material.

How to Get Started.

There are a few ways you can go about this. Several online content hubs allow you to create a profile and offer your services as a writer. The mains ones include; Upwork and Freelancer. You basically open a profile and start applying for writing positions. You will need to build a reputation. It will take some time to become an authority on these platforms, but once you do, you really make a steady income. Oh and remember, you are not touching the bud so it’s completely legal. Just remember to do your taxes.

2) Become a Marijuana Designer

This might not be for everyone and if you are not creative, then forget about it. The idea, though, is to become a graphics designer and specialize in the marijuana industry. Even if you’ve never drawn a line in your life, but you feel that you are creative enough to become a designer, then you can always take some online course and improve your skills.

The principle behind this sort of job is the same as the previous one. Many companies are now looking for designers that understand the field. Designers that can create killer business cards, posters, websites, etc… You will have to be tech savvy for this, but if you get a good reputation then you can charge! Some designers make up to $100 an hour.

How to Get Started

The process is the same as before. First off, you will need to learn photoshop or some other graphics program. Then you can create an account on any platform and start to offer your services.

3) Become a Marijuana Consultant

How to Determine the Quality of Weed

This type of job will require experience and knowledge. After all, no one is going to listen to you if you don’t know what you are talking about. The best thing is to specialize in something specific, for example, biz dev or a growing consultant.

Here’s an example, if you know tons of people in the industry or you are good with people then you can offer your services to help make a company grow. Most cannabis related companies are still small and are looking to grow. Some will pay good money for your expertise and those that have capital behind them might even hire you for your specific skill set or connections.

Other companies might consult with you on an hourly rate, just some that you can help them improve something.

How to Get Started

For this, you are going to have to know people within the industry. It’s all about connections. For those who don’t then simply reach out to companies and explain to them by email or phone how you can help them. Most companies will definitely want to hear.

4) Get Involved in Accessories

Get Involved in Accessories

We always think about a particular product but never about its complimentary products and how much money is involved. Can you imagine how many people became rich by selling iPhone cases? They didn’t even touch iPhones. Well, the same goes here!

The marijuana industry is extremely diverse and full of products. Even if you can’t get involved directly with the flower, you can always jump on other related products.

You can get involved in making pipes, bongs, glass, packaging, T-shirts, etc… Whatever your state permits and you feel like doing.

Final Thoughts

While all of these jobs won’t allow you to get in direct contact with the bud, they will definitely get you one step closer into the industry. And who knows, maybe you will be able to make enough money to move to a legal state and get your dream job.
